  • SHERELLE's BEAUTIFUL platform is launching a free academy in London for queer and BIPOC individuals in partnership with Danish audio company AIAIAI. The academy, which was teased earlier this summer, will begin with four free workshops in October, each of them hosted by SHERELLE alongside other guests. 15 students will participate per session. The first workshop is on the the history and political impact of Black music, co-hosted by journalist, author and DJ Marcus Barnes. The second is on production, featuring LCY, Lil Silva and Mura Masa. The third, co-hosted by Elijah, is a roundtable discussion on the social and economic aspects of the electronic music industry. Other guests include Phoebe Gold (PinkPantheress's manager), Touching Bass founder Errol and Hannah Shogbola, agent at United Talent. The fourth and final workshop will feature a conversation on the cultural impact of Black music between SHERELLE and PinkPantheress, whose meteoric rise we recently explored in this video essay. Artists interested in attending the academy can enrol here. Submissions close on August 22nd. For more on the academy, visit BEAUTIFUL's Instagram page. One of several projects in the works from SHERELLE and AIAIAI, the partnership launched in June with a week-long exhibition at Open House Hackney in collaboration with fynn studio. SHERELLE started BEAUTIFUL in 2020 in response to the whitewashing and erasure of Black and queer history in electronic music.
