- Pangaea's most memorable tracks—"Why," "Memories," "Sunset Yellow"—have made their mark through intricate compositions blasted through with boisterous vocal samples. The London-based producer has, along with labelmate Ramadanman, established a style of bass music that's heavy on the subs but with just enough melody to keep things from drying out completely. On his first release since his defining Hessle Audio double pack from last year, it seems like Pangaea's letting those previously submerged excitable tendencies to finally take over; "Inna Daze" is by far the raviest thing he's ever made. Kicking off with a muffled scream, the diva wailing of past tracks is replaced with the hoarse exasperation of fiery biblical tongues. The whole thing has an intensely circular progression, the swollen-bottom end contrasting with the resonant gunmetal of the slicing drum samples.
If "Inna Daze" almost manages to escape the enwombing inertia that so characterizes Pangaea, "Won't Hurt" practically flails around whatever room is brave enough to play it; the rippling drums can barely stay afloat on the turbulent layer of bumpy LFO. It's all pale tones and dead thuds until a distracting and gleefully stretched synth knocks the track off its axis.
