- Don't let its cover fool you. Don't let the mass of characters behind the release lead you in the wrong direction either. "This Is What I'm Doing" is smooth tech house sailing on both A- and B-side. Catz 'N Dogz and Pol_on refute the idea that there can be too many cooks in the kitchen. And they even bring Monty Luke's voice along to show you how pared down they can make things. Luke's contribution can't be overstated here actually: It's his voice (I think) that's cut up into one of the main melodic crutches used, hiding in between synth stabs, bolstering up the steady kick.
He definitely pops in for an extended monologue, but it's more the lovely organ that occupies the final few minutes of the original that are of the greatest import. Sounding like it came straight out of a less fluffy version of Martin Eyerer & Benno Blome's "Piano Roll," it's nonetheless one of the silkiest come-downs you'll hear this month. The piano is more prominent throughout the Drama Queen remix, even if it doesn't quite get as long to shine on its own. The mix is tougher, leading me to believe that these guys have met a fair few drama queens in their day that like to end things coldly and somewhat abruptly instead of stretching things out to their breaking point.
