- Oh, poor Sally Shapiro, singing about how she somehow can't find a 'normal' boyfriend. She's all lost and alone and in need of somebody regular to look after her. Sound familiar? Yep, it's the spiel you get from wannabee actresses in newspapers when they want to sound available for the lads. The only difference here is instead of slightly scary fake tan and glamour hair, you have a cute Scandinavian with ice-white teeth. Is this tongue in cheek? I can't tell, but it's very close to the line if it isn't. Coupled with a painfully sucrose pop backing (complete with violins, high impact sounds and key changes) this is like having sherbert dip poured in your ears.
Personally it's all a bit much, which is why I'm pretty sure you'll find the Junior Boys dub more palatable. Like Glass Candy, JBs recognise that pop often works best when tinged with melancholy, so they get rid of most of the vocal and string out the neon flashes to make a great Metro Area style lazy funk arrangement. Also on the EP is ‘Skating in the Moonshine’, which sounds like a poor cousin of the JBs rework, and a remix of ‘Jackie…’ by Dyylan, which gives the track a sweet city-skyline-at-night twinkle.
