- ANTS, the duo of Italian producer Soulless and Palestinian artist ODDZ, call their new EP a "sonic portrait of Palestine." This first single is both beautiful and frightening, with remarkably crunchy kick drums that sound like stone being pulverized into dust. Occasionally the beat drops out into broken beat chaos, before a dub techno fake-out leads to an even rowdier breakbeat. The second half sounds angry, almost destructive, but there's a glint of gorgeous melody underneath it, a moment of brightness peeking out from the fray. Land Of A Loss أرض الخسائر—whose profits go towards the Kamandjati school in Ramallah—was recorded and announced before the current conflict, though its raw power shows how the oppression and experiences of the Palestinians goes far back further than any one flare-up. Fiery, confrontational and emotional, this is about as evocative as techno gets.
