- Jessy Lanza and Morgan Geist return with another modern freestyle hit.
- The era of the American mall as a default gathering place for teenagers, an incubator of youthful romance and petty crime lubricated by mindless capitalism, is decidedly over. For those of us who grew up buying CDs at The Wall, that's kind of sad. Luckily for us, two of the most talented producers in contemporary dance music are recreating the soundtrack.
With The Galleria, Morgan Geist and Jessy Lanza look back fondly on freestyle and pop electro, which Geist heard in malls growing up in '80s New Jersey. Perhaps the reason we haven't heard from The Galleria after their well-loved 2015 debut single is that it's not easy to craft songs as carefree and addictive as Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam's "I Wonder If I Take You Home" or Connie's "Funky Little Beat."
With "Stop & Go," however, they succeed again. This time, Lanza's rhyming about a wishy-washy lover over dubby freestyle production that's further explored on the Pettibone-esque "Up The Wall Dub." Naturally, Lanza delivers a massive chorus that lodges in your head, the kind of thing you'd hum to yourself while ascending the mall escalator, sipping on an Orange Julius.
