- Spacey house music on the Italian duo's second EP for Life And Death.
- Through their music, Italo disco disciples Marvin & Guy offer an accessible form of space exploration. Previous releases, including their first EP for Life And Death, Superior Conjunction, turned the dance floor into a place far, far away. Their second release on the label finds them still somewhere out in the cosmos. Solar Warriors is an appropriate title, though. As much as the EP deals in a kind of droney menace, surprising flashes of light keep the gloom at bay. "Notte," featuring Allo, is the best example of this, its voiceover and sci-fi synths unexpectedly joined by piano mid-track. The keys are both optimistic and grounding, making transcendence feel possible right here on earth.
"Idra," featuring Perel, fuses Hippie Dance-style percussion with spooky pads and Perel's vocal. I have no idea what she's saying—it's in German—but it's sexy, unsettling and will sound incredible live in one of her hybrid sets. "Stage (9AM Mix)," by comparison, is six minutes of wind-blown ambience that never quite lifts off. It dilutes the strength of an otherwise alluring EP.
