- Many of you may have heard this production by Avus on James Holden’s Balance mix from late last year. For me it was one of the highlights in the first cd, a real minimal groove that worked very well. Well now we see the full release of the track on James Holden’s very own imprint, Border Community, and Real sees a very ‘unreal’ remix from young man Nathan Fake.
The Original Mix on the a-side is a quality piece of work. It’s quite minimal in its approach by keeping a pretty standard loop running throughout, that being a very solid baseline and a bouncy effect that runs with some solid beats. Atmospheric tones soon come into the track, alongside vocal samples that are heard throughout the track, but it is the random effects and sounds that come deep into the track that take the track up notches for its duration.
The Nathan Fake Remix is definitely a lot harder to put into words. For the first half of the track, the beats are wildly thrown around, with sounds from the original effected and twisted into quirky loops of sound. The baseline still remains in the background, keeping some levels of sanity within a twisted opening half of a remix. The main breakdown in the middle of the production sees some melody incorporated into the production, and sees Fake really turn this track into a fantastic production from here on in. It’s a little more conformed from this point, and the atmosphere that takes place is somewhat stunning. But all in all it’s a fantastic showcase of what Nathan Fake is all about.
Another quality release from Border Community, and it not only comes with a solid original, but it comes with a b-side that is sure to mess with a few peoples minds.
