- Throughout an unhurried schedule of six EPs in six years, Amsterdam's Pascal Pinkert, AKA Dollkraut, has always excelled in coaxing dusty, spacey sounds from his array of analogue gear. The title track on Fire, his first release for Permanent Vacation, takes these qualities to the nth degree, with an indecipherable, mantric falsetto vocal whistling eerily through a stark lo-fi murk comprised of insect-like bass and brittle drums.
On the flip, "Hagen (Feel Some Love)" is a little more textured. A similar falsetto vocal is joined by an ominously croaky, spoken-word counterpart, while jaunty bass and glowing pads cement the track's warmer mood. New York duo Invisible Conga People round out the package with a remix of the title track. A simmering, lingering production that bears little resemblance to the original, its surrounds a creaky bassline with all manner of echoing pings, buzzes and percussive clatters, maintaining the sci-fi atmosphere until the end.
