Tessela - Darlene, Please

  • Delen
  • Here comes another West Country producer into the post-dubstep fray, this time courtesy of London's continually non-specific 2nd Drop. Sounding like two takes (one warm-up, one peak time) on a proto-industrial bass blueprint, first is "Let Up" which spends most of its time marking out big hollow spaces with mechanical precision. Flapping valves, hydraulic pistons and pendulous bass notes are the spare components of something that sounds like it was made in a factory as much as a studio, with only a snatched, echoing yelp suggesting human presence of any sort. The likes of Martyn and Instra:mental would likely be fans of its implicit toughness, but the much more fulsome, brutalist thickness of "Darlene, Please"'s galvanised metallic hits and brushed neon hues would also likely appeal as well.
