- Maurice Fulton's mysterious new project Syclops releases its debut album, I’ve Got My Eye On You.
Syclops, the mysterious project helmed by Maurice Fulton, will drop its debut album I Got My Eye on You this June.
The mystery? While Discogs claims Fulton is the man behind Syclops, the Finnish trio of Sven Kortehisto (keyboards, electronics), Hanna Sarkari (bass, keyboards and electronics) and Jukka Kantonen (drums, percussion and drum programming) are named in the press notes as the group. Those Finns are widely believed to be figments of Fulton’s imagination, although he claims they were the ones playing on his remix of Hot Chip’s ‘Over & Over’ and Kathy Diamond’s disco-funk epic Miss Diamond to You. Not helping their cause is the fact that they, like Fulton, don’t do interviews. (On the other hand, Fulton has worked in the past with Jimi Tenor, so the Finnish connection isn’t all that hard to believe.)
What we do know is that whoever is behind the music on I’ve Got My Eye On You, they’ve successfully extended the ‘Jason K’ vibe to a full-length. The album is a journey into the nether regions of dark, live-sounding electro in tracks like ‘5 Out’ and ‘The E Ticket’ until you come out on the other side of ‘A Lovely Sunday’, a patient and beautiful coda that uses the same elements for good, rather than evil.
