  • London mayor Sadiq Khan has announced a £1.3 million fund for the creative industries in the boroughs of Croydon, Hounslow and Lambeth. The fund will be rolled out between April 2021 and June 2023, providing opportunities to more than 225 Londoners and a further 120 employees, with a particular focus on supporting women and Black, Asian and minority ethnic people. "Culture and the creative industries are at the heart of our city," says Khan, "and they will play a huge role in our economic and social recovery. That's why we must do all we can to support jobs and small businesses at this challenging time, and that includes ensuring there are opportunities available to all." Different boroughs will focus on different disciplines: TV and broadcasting in Hounslow, creative and digital media in Lambeth, and music in Croydon, the birthplace of dubstep. "Croydon's creative enterprise zone has been incredibly important in helping our local industries to flourish and, more recently, it has enabled us to provide local cultural organisations, artists and entrepreneurs with a much-needed boost during the pandemic," says Oliver Lewis, local councillor and cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport in Croydon. Half of the money will come from the European Social Fund (£650,000), with the mayor's Creative Enterprise Zones programme providing £450,000. Hounslow and Lambeth will contribute the additional £200,000. Find out more here. Photo credit: Caught In Joy
