- Obakodomo, conceived as a soundtrack for a dance piece, is out later this month.
The first album from French producer Julienne Dessagne's Fantastic Twins project—formerly known as The Twins—is on the way via Optimo Music.
Obakodomo is the name Dessagne has given the soundtrack she wrote for a 2016 contemporary dance piece, called Au Balcon Du Monde, which was made with a children's audience in mind. She describes the performance as telling the story of two explorers in Antarctica who encounter a colony of penguins, saying it's a metaphor for "how to learn to live together and share resources." (You can watch a video teaser on YouTube.)
"I wanted to create an atmosphere that would immediately transport the children into this terra nova," Dessagne explains, "Where the strange meets the frightening and the playful." But she also aimed for a "more universal" appeal: "Music for children doesn't have to be 'childish.' Children love to be scared or even just challenged." The LP will be out later this month, with an initial run available on blue and white marbled wax.
We recently heard from Dessagne by way of a Fantastic Twins EP, The New You, put out last month on Superpitcher and Rebolledo's Hippie Dance label.
