- Sacred Bones will release the score for the film about homeless street kids in post-Soviet Ukraine, overseen by Atticus Ross.
The Haxan Cloak contributed to the score for the documentary Almost Holy, out on Sacred Bones in August.
The soundtrack also features new material from Trent Reznor collaborator and award-winning composer Atticus Ross, who has scored films like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Ross appears on five tracks alongside his brother Leopold Ross, while Haxan Cloak, AKA Bobby Krlic, has the other four on the LP (which includes material that didn't make it into the film).
The documentary, directed by Steve Hoover, is about post-Soviet Ukraine and the social and political collapse that came with the dissolution of the USSR. It follows a pastor, Gennadiy Mokhnenko, who saves drug-addicted homeless youth, at times by forcible abduction, and brings them to his rehabilitation center—the largest program of its kind in the former Soviet Union.
"The music surfs the line of sound design and operates as a support to the overall arc, rather than being specifically tied to the characters," Atticus explains. "Gennadiy doesn't have a theme, and I'm not sure he needs one, or how he could be reduced to one. He's powerful but tender, loving but aggressive, committed but flawed. We felt it was important that the music never dilute or distract from his message. Less is more, so to speak."
