- The Bali label also has music from Tim Goldsworthy in the pipeline.
Bali's Island Of The Gods Recordings will start its Island Explorer album series with Black Merlin's Hipnotik Tradisi.
Due out June 15th, the 14-track LP was recorded by Black Merlin, real name George Thompson, on a trip to Indonesia. According to the label, Thompson worked with local musicians to capture the sounds of gamelan, gong and bamboo, plus field recordings from around Bali's jungles and beaches. These recordings were then fine-tuned by Thompson in his London studio.
Hipnotik Tradisi will be followed by an album from Amsterdam's Young Marco, with former DFA man Tim Goldsworthy coming after that. Island Of The Gods is run by Dan Mitchell, the co-founder of East London fashion boutique LN-CC who moved to Bali a couple of years back. When the label launched in 2014, Mitchell said his aim was to "bridge the gap between the old world musicians and sounds of Indonesia, and fuse it with modern sounds."
