- The London transplant has his first six-tracker, Mavericks, coming on April 1st.
Sami Baha will make his Planet Mu debut with Mavericks on April 1st.
The young Turkish producer has his roots in the country's hip-hop scene. His sound is influenced by American rap instrumentals and Turkish Arabesk music. "I grew up listening to popular Turkish performers Ibrahim Tatlises and Muslum Gurses alongside trap originators DJ Screw and the Atlanta scene," he says. "I know people don't hear the orient instruments and rhythms in my music, but I like to think of my music as Arabesk-trap."
He began writing the six-track EP, which features a collaboration with Kuedo, in his hometown of Istanbul, before moving to London last year. "The music I produced became more chaotic as Istanbul became a harsher place both politically and economically," he explains. "I didn't really design it that way, but I feel like the sound got more aggressive over the years."
Since moving to London he's picked up a handful of guest spots on NTS and Rinse FM, including a show with Lit City Trax boss J-Cush that you can listen to below. (His mix starts at the 1:06:00 mark.) You can also check out clips from Mavericks via Planet Mu's official site.
