- Exit Records will release the Australian producer's maiden full-length later this week.
Exit Records will release Joe Seven's first album, Near / Far, this Friday, October 23rd.
Joe Seven, AKA Joseph Smaje, is one of the lesser-known artists in the Exit roster, having only released two left-leaning 12-inches for dBridge's label back in 2011. (Though he also collaborated with Consequence on a full-length as They Live that same year.)
The Australian re-emerged a few weeks ago with the announcement of the Binary Collective—a four-way collaboration between him, dBridge, Consequence and Kid Drama—and now he's moving onto his debut album. Near / Far, which the label says maintains the "solitary, tense disposition we've come to expect from his work," was originally released on cassette as part of an art project with prints by Daisy Cooper. Now Exit is giving the record a full release.
"Near / Far is a collection of tracks that were written over the course of a few
years," Smaje told RA over email. "One was amongst the first folder of tracks I sent to dBridge, which led to my being signed to Exit Records and eventually led to being asked to write another album for him. Others were written specifically for the project. I'm not sure if i would say they are all complete—some are closer than others. But when i listen back to it all as a whole they somehow make sense to me as they are. Luckily, dBridge thought so too."
