- The American outfit and Ilpo Väisänen's quartet both have new albums on the schedule.
Editions Mego has announced its latest two album releases, both out in June.
The releases showcase the diversity of the Austrian label. First up, on June 9th, is the fourth release from Angel, the collaborative project between former Pan Sonic member Ilpo Väisänen and Dirk Dresselhaus (AKA Schneider TM). Featuring the group "at their most abstract, their most static... [and] their most focused," on Terra Null the duo are joined by Hildur Guðnadóttir on cello and vocals, and Lucio Capece handling horns and sound manipulation.
Calling it a "statement on cultural Darwinism," the press release adds that "at a time when the dominance of capital and greed blanket our world in a singular destructive objective, Angel deploy a reductionist technique that opens a path towards a potential new reality." Have a listen to a snippet of "Colonialists" below.
The second LP comes from American project Thought Broadcast, which released two albums of noisy industrial-tinged post-punk on Editions Mego and Olde English Spelling Bee back in 2012. Votive Zero reportedly takes the music to a more experimental place, and the label describes it as "a hazily paranoid exploration of electronic music's nebulous grey zone" with "dubplate style fidelity." Album track "Runaway" is streaming below.
