- The former Brainfeeder associate will release Wish You Were Here next week.
Samiyam's next album will drop on Monday, October 8th.
Sam Baker has been carving out his own corner of the LA beat scene for a few years now, making broken and dusty beats that bear similarity to some of Flying Lotus' early work. He's released two LPs on Brainfeeder so far, including 2011's Sam Baker's Album, which we compared to J Dilla in our review. After a relatively quiet period (albeit one where his beats were cherrypicked by Earl Sweatshirt and Flying Lotus under his rapper guise Captain Murphy), he's now signed to LA hip-hop institution Stones Throw, which will release Wish You Were Here in partnership with Matthewdavid's Leaving Records.
The album will come in cassette form (along with a t-shirt), with a digital download available as well. Baker promises a simple and rootsy affair, stating that "I'm not about futuristic spaceship beats, just straight forward hip-hop" in a press release.
You can listen to "Snakes On The Moon" from the record here.
