- The Texas producers will release an LP together in September.
Ernest Gonzales and Diego Bernal have collaborated on an album called Atonement, duo out on September 17th.
Gonzales is probably best known for his association with LA label Friends of Friends, for which he's released music under his own name as well as his Mexicans With Guns alias (which is more influenced by the USA's neighbour to the south). Diego Bernal, meanwhile, is a producer as well as a San Antonio city councillor. He reached out to Gonzales when he found he didn't have enough free time to complete a musical project on his own.
The sample-heavy record they ended up making together is described as a "concept album that was written to be the soundtrack of an unmade Mexican Western film... a tale of love and loss." It'll come through Gonzales' own Exponential Records label, and all proceeds from the LP will go towards founding a new nonprofit called the San Antonio Music Production Lab (or SAMPL), aimed at teaching at-risk youth in the city how to make music.
Incidentally, Gonzales has also made all the releases on Exponential available for free download over at the label's BandCamp page.
