- The New Zealand-based ambient producer will make a return to the album format in March, again releasing on the Kompakt label.
Andrew Thomas will release his fourth solo album on Kompakt next month, entitled Between Buildings And Trees.
Thomas' long and fruitful relationship with the Cologne imprint began in 2003 with the release of Fearsome Jewel, which saw Thomas explore the swirling beatless textures and delicate piano sounds that we've come to expect from the man. After a further 12-inch, digital album, and numerous Pop Ambient appearances, he's back with another physical full-length, which again sees him experiment with melancholic but hopeful melodies, smearing them into a swelling tapestry of ambience.
For the record, Andrew went through a process of splicing together old material from cassettes and 4-track recordings with some of his earlier digital material. Of this process, he explains that, "when working on this album I would often be looking out to the sea, the hills, the mountains. I would do this a lot in the evenings - dusk, with the sun/light in its dying moments."
