Aurora Halal and Chrissy & Hawley are part of a four-night run of events celebrating women in dance music.
Chicago's smartbar will host its next Daphne series of events, celebrating female, female-identifying and non-binary artists, early next month.
After the series first took place throughout March of 2015, the club is hosting a four-night version this year. It's set to start on Thursday, July 7th, with Cherushii, a San Francisco producer and 100% Silk affiliate, and Hugo Ball co-founder Eris Drew (Nathan Drew Larsen), leading a women-focused discussion of the history of synthesis and a workshop on setting up a rig for live performance. Afterward, the club's usual late-night session will see sets from Cherushii, playing live, and locals T. Mixwell and Ariel Zetina.
Friday the 8th will see the club welcome Brooklyn's Aurora Halal, who helms the Mutual Dreaming party and Sustain-Release festival, for a three-hour live/DJ set, and LA's Dahlia. The next night's lineup comprises The Black Madonna, a resident and former talent buyer at smartbar who's currently living in Berlin, Chrissy (another resident) & Hawley, playing live to celebrate the release of their upcoming album, and Sold. The long weekend winds down on Sunday the 10th with a Daphne edition of Queen!—Eris Drew is the evening's special guest, and sets will also come from Queen! selectors Michael Serafini and Garrett David.
smartbar says in 2017 "a full month of Daphne programming will return."
