- The famed Chicago label will return with two records, set for release later this month.
Chicago label Dance Mania will return with a reissue of Parris Mitchell's 1995 record Project and a new 12-inch from Traxman.
Launched in 1985, Dance Mania went on to release a seemingly endless stream of 12-inches before more or less folding around 2000. It started out releasing early Chicago house records, but gradually moved towards a brand of raw, thumping club music that became known as ghetto house. In recent times, the label has come in for renewed appreciation, with everyone from Delroy Edwards and DJ Richard to Nina Kraviz and Night Slugs referencing the label's signature style.
Dance Mania will relaunch with two records, both of which will come out in late May. One is a brand new 12-inch from Traxman—a producer who is now closely associated with footwork, which grew out of ghetto house—called West Side Boogie Vol. II. The other is Parris Mitchell's Project EP, retitled Parris Mitchell Project: Classic Edition. As Juno Plus report, this 12-inch contains an original and acapella version of highly sought-after sleaze anthem "All Night Long," which was sampled by Bakey USTL on 2010's A Tender Place EP, and reissued by Wicked Bass in 2012 with remixes from Bok Bok. These will be followed by a split release featuring Traxman and Bobby Skillz.
Speaking to RA, Mitchell, who will run the label with Ray Barney, confirmed that Dance Mania also has releases from label favourites DJ Deeon, Steve Poindexter, DJ Funk, Robert Armani and Jammin Gerald in the pipeline.
